I was reminiscing about the red Williams in the fantasy thread, jumped on wiki to remind myself about how bad 1998 was for the team and this stood out as an indication of the current status of Red Bull.

"The team was adversely affected by the departure of Chief Designer Adrian Newey to McLaren, and Renault's withdrawal from F1 as an engine supplier."

Although Red Bull haven't lost both this year this sure could be the start of more than just one bad year.

Honestly 2026 might be the best thing for them to reset the car as much as they can, but in doing so they might see their best driver leave because it’s set up the way he likes it. Seems like it’s reached the point now where even he’s starting to have moments keeping it under control.
I don't think it's so much that Max likes the car that way, but he's the only one who can handle it past a certain point. A fast car is always going to be on the edge of stability, but Red Bull has kept sharpening that edge through the years and was tricked into thinking it was making a good car because Max has the unique ability to drive around the instability. I'm sure Max would be very happy to be in the McLaren right now.

So I wanted to see what the Kagi ’News’ feed is like, so I used “formula one” as my search term.
Quite a bit of news and rumors over the last day of Checo -> Cadillac.
That would be very interesting. It definitely felt like Perez wasn't done with F1 yet, even if Red Bull was done with him. Cadillac makes a lot of sense - and he can be there to advise them on a lot of stuff over the next 12 months.

He also brings in some sponsorship money to kick things off.

That seems very likely as an explanation to me.

I wound up reading more about Haas and I had no idea Guenther Steiner had been replaced by Komatsu. I might have to credit Haas with a little more upside.

Really wish they'd bring Guenther back in some role, though. Like chief publicist.

Red Bull is running a special livery this weekend too, and while not as cool as the one Haas has going (I mean, what is cooler than that one?) it's still really really slick. This is going to look great on track:

So this was Red Bull’s livery at Turkey in 2021 (which was supposed to be Japan but… yeah):

And here is their 2025 Japanese GP livery:

And finally the Haas at the Japanese GP (and this image is perfect for the pixel treatment :flail:!)
I especially like the brush-stroke car numbers.

I'm sure they get used to it as they go through F3/F2, but damn there's a lot on that wheel. It's very intimidating. I don't know how the drivers have the mental capacity to adjust knobs and settings while they're doing 300 kph.
I’d imagine that a lot of practice from the driver’s perspective is working out not only the limits of the car, but the optimal settings on this grounded spacecraft to attack the circuit.

Break balance I get. And I see knobs for corner entry and high-speed, but I don’t know what they’re adjusting. Is ”Mid” mid-corner? What is EB - the degree of regenerative braking, perhaps? I can make guesses on a lot of the others, but I’m just not sure.

From this article on the SF-24's wheel, MID is mid-corner diff setting as you thought, and EB is engine braking.

I hear Cadillac is planning on forgoing all the knobs and using capacitive touch controls. Their drivers won't be able to wear gloves and they aren't allowed to sweat, but it will look totally cutting edge.

Will the car look like every other GM mid-sized SUV product, just with fancier head- and tail lights? Because if they’re gonna go full Cadillac, they may as well… :p

That is one thing that confused me. When I think American high performance, Cadillac is not one of the names that come to mind. Looking it up, I guess they did some prototype racing recently, but… It’s fucking Cadillac, known for heavy frames, rolling bodies and leaking oil.

In other news, the guy who had F1tv left due to a family emergency. I went to subscribe and now it’s saying it is region restricted… I checked the other week and it was fine. I wonder what changed?

They’ve been in various forms of racing over the past 20 years or so, starting with the CTS-V. The past 8-10 years they‘ve been competing regularly in the upper echelons of IMSA, winning a BUNCH of races in different classes. And they’ve fully gone in on the LMD-H class at the top of the IMSA and FIA WEC series, and have made a decent showing.

My 670bhp, RWD CT5V Blackwing with a 6 speed manual and a Camaro ZL1 chassis says hello.

So does the absolutely thunderous V-Series.R LMDh endurance racer. Pure metal.

Listen to that noise! The Blackwing sounds like a baby by comparison, but still sounds good:

Don't forget the badge on the front. If it's not at least 2 feet across, it's not a Cadillac.

Badge engineering is no joke...it takes effort to make a badge that large.
