Can we please just make it through one day without Trump doing something blatantly illegal and tyrannical and all the law makers just looking the other way?
No. It's the sole reason he got the job; absolutely lack of any principles whatsoever other than "what's mine is mine and what's yours is also mine unless it's nailed down, and I am allowed to use as big a crowbar as I wish."

It'll be when he comes for the Senators like Caligula or Nero that they'll...do nothing and hope for some conspirators.

It's hard for people to understand that a functioning democracy relies to a great degree on the goodwill of elected officials to follow laws and even longstanding norms. We talk about checks and balances, but relying on politicians to do what's right is an enormous, unstated requirement.

Now we're seeing what happens when they don't.

Say what you will about the man, his work ethic is strong. He's not wasting any time. He's a highly motivated and goal oriented person. Just, you know, those goals are just the worst.

edit: come on now, I am being facetious. He's not actually a hard worker, he just keeps pumping out shit everyday.

I wonder if ANYONE could have seen this coming:

"Washington’s principal concern was for the safety of the
eight-year-old Constitution. He believed that the stability
of the Republic was threatened by the forces of
geographical sectionalism, political factionalism, and
interference by foreign powers in the nation’s domestic
affairs. "

Even if the courts find the rulings were illegal, I doubt anything will come of it. Trump and his cronies have simply ignored the courts thus far, and there have been no consequences for them doing so. The DOJ won’t do anything and Congress won’t do anything. Trump can rule with impunity because no one will stop him.

The next democrat president had better grow a spine and fire all the republican ftc/fcc/usps employees in turn.
That’s assuming there will be another Democratic president. I listened to an interview on NPR with someone who studied how countries lose democracy, and he said that in most cases the ruling party still allows elections, but the opposition never wins. I fear the same will happen here.

Ha! Like it matters what a court says. We are in a full-blown authoritarian dictatorship. The sooner the people realize this or the press actually reports this, the better.
The US will continue to pretend it is a democracy and will champion freedom whilst doing the exact opposite. I don’t believe what you say will ever be admitted out loud.

Jesus fucking Christ. When will the "party of law and order" grow a god damn spine uphold said laws?
They're the party of the in-group whom the law protects but does not bind, and the out-groups who the law binds but does not protect. They're the party of law and order when law and order is a useful cudgel, nothing more. Welcome to anocracy.

Why the scare quotes? The law is clear. It _is_illegal (and if the legal system doesn't uphold basic legal precedent then it's time to get a working legal system). There is not much ambiguity here.

While agree with your point, I wouldn’t call them scare quotes. typical practice (which republicans exploit) is to not make any authoritative legal claims while there’s any meaningful contention, and writers get around that by quoting someone else’s words so it isn’t the writer making the claim.

Because its a quote and journalists tend to not assume guilt until proven guilty.

When will you lazy worthless Americans going to actually start doing SOMETHING about this blatant repeat of 1930's Germany? How many countries are going to suffer from the consequences of your Fourth Reich before you realize that maybe you should have acted sooner?
Sorry to disappoint you, but most of us lazy Americans have to make rent and eat. But I'll run over a Nazi if I see one on my way home from work.

It has been said in so many different ways from various members of the current administration that this will be the last elected administration and that it will be a coup and that we will have a dictator. We really need to take the Republican side of the argument at its word and act accordingly and stop pretending otherwise.

It's really galling to watch years of Democratic politicians sit on their hands and say how they couldn't get anything done despite having a larger mandate, only to watch Trump and Co get things done with the second-smallest mandate in US history

Not excusing Republicans, but you can really see how Democrats wrote their own poltical epitath, and why their collective approval ratings among their own supporters are in the 20% range.

Decades of neoliberal do-nothing policies are coming home to roost.

Why do I have a feeling the Commissioners will be pushing shit uphill trying to fight this in the courts?

Not the lower courts, but once it reaches SCOTUS? They've demonstrated time and again that precedent may as well be toilet paper, and what are the chances they won't go along with whatever the Führer President wants (despite recent rebuke from Roberts)?
