Samsung turns to China to boost its ailing semiconductor division

Wait . . . I thought that tariffs were going to bring manufacturing back to America, who could then sell things to other nations? Shouldn't Taiwan be asking the US to manufacture chips, to they can buy them? As a "thank you" for the tariffs?

Cheap TVs’ incessant advertising reaches troubling new lows

So . . . . 1. A random Reddit user claims this happened on his TV. But provides no video evidence. 2. Nobody else has reported it. 3. Ars "hasn't been able to replicate this internally." 4. But given the technology, it's possible it could have happened. Really?

It's hard for people to understand that a functioning democracy relies to a great degree on the goodwill of elected officials to follow laws and even longstanding norms. We talk about checks and balances, but relying on politicians to do what's right is an enormous, unstated requirement. Now...

The world’s toughest race starts Saturday, and it’s delightfully hard to call this year

If you watch the original Eco Challenges you can definitely see how it evolved into Survivor. "Let's keep the physicality, ramp up the interpersonal drama, and make this a whole lot easier to follow." Luckily "Race to Survive" has revived that. Alaska was pretty good, and now R2S: New Zealand...

We now have even more evidence against the “ecocide” theory of Easter Island

Isn't it true, though, that the use of "here be dragons" in western cartography is largely a myth? It appears on one 16th-century globe, and that's pretty much it?
