New Windows 11 build makes mandatory Microsoft Account sign-in even more mandatory

So in January I decided to do a 90 day Linux challenge. I picked Fedora. And like you there is a specific piece of software which I use regularly which is Windows only. My solution is that I run windows in a VM for when I need it. Ironically when I was on windows I kept a Linux VM for the same...

Apple M4 MacBook Air review: I have no notes

I would have agreed with you on the UI. But then I tried Fedora 41 Gnome, which is extremely Mac like in its feel. It is still different. but it is nice.

Apple announces M3 Ultra—and says not every generation will see an “Ultra” chip

It was a joke. The people who need that machine have jobs that make it worth it. So it doesn’t bother me. Although, 490+ gb of vram on a bus that is nearly a KB is amazing. I don’t think such a person is buying a Pro Display XDR everytime either.

Apple announces M3 Ultra—and says not every generation will see an “Ultra” chip

So the maxed out Mac Studio is $14099. But I am not getting the Final Cut Pro license because I don't want to waste money. lol.

Framework, known for upgradable laptops, intros not-particularly-upgradable desktop

No you aren’t the only one. The issue for me in that area is the onboard storage. 2 m.2 slots are not sufficient for effective fault tolerance. But. Add in a 4x pci storage sled and this thing is a container monster.

Framework’s Laptop 12 is its first stab at a budget convertible touchscreen PC

I have to disagree with you there. When the M1 came out, no computer anywhere could touch the M1s performance when not plugged in to a wall outlet. There were entire reviews that showed that to get faster performance you had to plug them in. X86 laptops were completely nerfed the moment...

Framework gives its 13-inch Laptop another boost with Ryzen AI 300 CPU update

In truth, Fedora in particular works great. Living with Linux began for me as a 60 day challenge. I may never go back.

Framework gives its 13-inch Laptop another boost with Ryzen AI 300 CPU update

Curious why you didn’t do what I did and try out the many Linux options. I mean I have a MBP but then I am a 2 laptop guy.

Framework gives its 13-inch Laptop another boost with Ryzen AI 300 CPU update

There are many who have no need or desire for a touchscreen at all. On my FW, the fact that the display is screwed in and the thinness means that to support a touchscreen, we might have to have a thicker display module. Not a worthy trade off.

Dangling, twitching human robot with synthetic muscles makes its debut

I think, as someone who watched my grandfather live his entire life as an amputee, that this is a really good thing. If they could figure out a neural interface, something like this would be a boon for those who need it.

Errant reference in macOS 15.2 seems to confirm M4 MacBook Airs for 2025

I got back into the Mac with the M1 air. I did upgrade within a year to the m1pro because the HDMI port and the third USB-c, but mostly because of the screen. And that computer would be perfectly fine with me, except that it was stolen from Apple’s service center. So the M2-max with 64gb of...

Errant reference in macOS 15.2 seems to confirm M4 MacBook Airs for 2025

I think the point here is demonstrating that they can keep ahead of the curve. Just when the competition thinks they are gaining, Apple reaches for another gear.

    Intel targets budget-friendly 1440p gaming with $249 and $219 Arc B500 GPUs

Setting aside the whole arm/x86 platform issue and the Gaming issue, because that is a whole mess of architecture and OS issues. Apple had notched clear wins over X86 at a much lower TDP. One wonders what would happen if Apple released a chip that was not worried about efficiency. But back...

Google seems to have called it quits on making its own Android tablets—again

Well that is funny. Seeing as how I constantly have my iPad with me for diagraming, documenting note taking, research and a bunch of other tools where I need a bigger than phone screen and a keyboard/trackpad interface is counter productive. Almost as if your lack of imagination is not the...

Student was punished for using AI—then his parents sued teacher and administrators

Indeed. The thing is my niece argued with me because in her mind her teacher did it in class and she could not conceive of the idea that the teachers method might not be correct.

Student was punished for using AI—then his parents sued teacher and administrators

Responding only to your comment about me. The issue I have is that schools are totally and completely failing to produce critical thinkers at all. What they are producing is people who can correctly source articles but cannot make value judgements about the quality of these sources at all.

Student was punished for using AI—then his parents sued teacher and administrators

I am going to go against the grain on this a bit. While I find it difficult to sympathize with this particular student and his parents, having helped my nieces and nephews recently complete secondary school, I find that school leaves them wholly unprepared for real life. Specifically, the...

Report: First wave of M4 Macs, including smaller Mac mini, coming November 1

This debate is over and well settled. Intel lost and Apple won. Intel struggles at this point to ship anything that is new and innovative and that also works properly out of the box. If I am looking at an X86 box I am looking at AMD and have been for a long time. I have serious concerns...

Microsoft releases Office 2024, the latest buy-once-own-forever version of Office

You say this. And yet when I implemented this corporate wide there were nothing but problems especially in user training and in some very weird issues in the way Calc handles very large spreadsheets. The cost of the software is really only a very small part of the calculus.
