Elon probably conceded when he was reminded how deep in the red Twitter is.
Or when he realized the country would just start seizing his assets from other companies he owns when its his insistence preventing compliance.

Twitter is well on its way to being a submarine but SpaceX and Tesla could be dragged under if he picks enough fights with countries that decide to go after his assets across the board to satisfy his debts and fines against him.

I trust Elon to keep his word about as much as I trust T***p not to lie. Brazil should not trust but verify.
If Musk has another tantrum, Brazil can always block Twitter again. If they need to grab money from his other companies to pay the fines his tantrums earn, they can do that again.

They have the big stick. If he refuses to comply again, they can beat him with it until he resumes complying.

my condolences to the (previously) recovering Twitter addicts in Brazil
just like when he pulled his craziness in the US there was a massive migration of Brazilian users to other platforms when it was down and those users for the most part are not coming back. Elon does not need Advertisers.... or Users.

I really wish we could sub "US" in for "Brazil" here.

Alas...

Good. I like when Elmo loses. But his level of defiance should warrant some actual punishment, shouldn't it? Breaking the law for so long and so purposefully should have penalty beyond "you have to follow the law now".

its reinstatement was apparently delayed because the Supreme Court said last week that X paid the fines to the wrong bank.
Not surprised that folks willing to work for Elmo are clowns.

you can say "Trump" on the internet, I don't see why people gotta self-sensor like on TikTok / IG (which doesn't really work btw).
Like, I don't meant to start any arguments over this tangent, but I can't help but think that the expanding self-censorship of internet commenters proves that algorithmic platforms like Instagram and TikTok twist and warp public thought. I've even seen people use "ahh" here instead of ass. Like, people have become so afraid of dark patterns that they are changing the English language to try and escape it, but continue to go back to those platforms that are having such an obviously deleterious effect on their mental health.

Maybe I'm being too "Old man yells at clouds" over the kids these days and their new lingo. But like... if you're too afraid to say Trump on Ars Technica because Facebook has conditioned you to be afraid, just like... Man. Reconsider, please.

I watch videos where people talk about how a kid powed at a school and unalived a bunch of kids and teachers, and can’t help to think about the department of truth’s newspeak.

The U.S. freedom of speech/freedom of association thing combined with an extreme interpretation of corporate personhood is leading us somewhere very weird.

Reminder that these terms come from Tiktok, where they also ban a smith anytime a knife is shown on screen.

Well, I don't like Elon Musk but the problem in Brazil is that the judge is not following the laws either... He thinks he's the law and he's not even following the constitution. He's acting like a prosecutor, arresting people, as an appeal judge and as supreme court justice. So if he determines that someone should be silenced, all bank accounts blocked and eventually arrested, the federal police execute the "sentence", if the accused appeal he will handle the appeal and if the accused try to go to the supreme court, well he IS the supreme court...
So, let's try to abstract from X and the Elon Musk persona and try to see the real problem in Brazil, where there is censorship and a supreme court justice can do anything he wants, with the rest of the world applauding him and thinking it's "local law"...
… hmmm.

so which Brazilian constitution are you an expert in?

the (1967) Military dictatorship one?
~ yes authoritarian have constitutions too

or the current (1990-2017) one ?
~The one which was written specifically with the goal of preventing another military coup/dictatorship

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Brazil
“the first constitution to demand severe punishment for breaches of civil liberties and rights. Consequently, Brazil later approved a law making the propagation of prejudice against any minority or ethnic group an unbailable crime. This law provided legal remedy against those who spread hate speech or those who do not treat all citizens equally. This second aspect helped disabled people to have a reserved percentage of jobs in public service and large companies, and Afro-Brazilians to seek reparation for racism in court.

Breaking with the authoritarian logic of the previous Constitution, it made unbailable crimes those of torture and of actions directed against the democratic state and the constitutional order, thus creating constitutional devices to block coups d'état of any kind.”

So apparently Elon really does give a f#$k....about power. I think he just hated losing an audience and influence in an area. After the whole debacle in Florida where he told them free Starlink but then it turned out to be a scam to get new clients, can we stop giving this man attention.
What scam in Florida?

It has little to do with consideration and much to do with addiction. You know... "the prison where the lock is on the inside" and all that.

Only if it's his speech. Like Animal Farm, that world view of some animals are more equal then others. I had to read that and 1984, also Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, in school. Tail end boomer so parents were in the Cold War "Industry" so to speak. Also read a lot of Solzhenitsyn among others. I still have a book by J. Stalin. You know, that guy. Be glad that kind of communism is now mostly gone.
Yes, but sadly fascism has become mainstream :(

Twixer is an "indispensable platform" ? Maybe for Nazi's but not for the majority of us normal folk.

Although I read that alot of Ars... unfortunately, normal folk are still abundently using it. Constantly daily news sources quote it and use it. I agree the whole platform is a cesspool... but it is still a viable place for many to migrate.

"X is proud to return to Brazil," the company's Global Government Affairs account said yesterday. "Giving tens of millions of Brazilians access to our indispensable platform was paramount throughout this entire process. We will continue to defend freedom of speech, within the boundaries of the law, everywhere we operate."

This total and absolute inability to even remotely acknowledge in this type of communication that you have just been Owned, is SO of-putting. Feels like a personal insult to your intelligence.

I don't want - and don't NEED - to hear ANYTHING this guy says EVER again. Because neither the content nor the vibe contains even a shred of useful and accurate information.

Or, and this is a stretch here.

The wealthy need more accountability and less freedom on the globe overall and this is a type of accountability no matter how over the top and harsh.

This is a very easy problem to solve: Be less leveraged, have a lower net worth, and fix the wealth gaps between the wealthy, middle-class and poverty. Do that, and you won't have these egregious cases of justice being cheered.

And that's even if this is egregious, most of the wealthy deserve this treatment to be merely base line justice globally right now. They're a literal threat to everyone else in the world with their net worth alone regardless of what they choose to do with it.

You can cheer for the wealthy/corporations in different situations, governments in others with some nuance, but cheering for neither is mostly advocacy for self-harm, and right now cheering for Musk on ANYTHING only betrays that the devils' advocate in his favor is willfully ignoring context to push an agenda.
