Astonishing. We're being led by high school popularity contestants playing at governance.

FTFY——> Astonishing. We're being led by high school popularity contestants with command and control over the most lethal military in the history of humankind, including enough nuclear warheads to kill every human being on the planet earth playing at governance.

Why do I get the feeling that with this administration a nuke launch will also be a directive sent via text message?

A few minutes later, on Truth Social…

Every day this administration gets away with another scandal that would put Watergate to shame.
The break-in was discovered and the crime was stopped.

Nixon skated even though he green-lit the plans because he was generally the first evil Republican POTUS of the century (though his politics then weren't quite as awful as his morals were).

And less is going to be done about this. That's how far we've fallen in only 50 years.

"The Vance account also stated, "3 percent of US trade runs through the suez. 40 percent of European trade does," and "I just hate bailing Europe out again." The Hegseth account responded that "I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It's PATHETIC," but added that "we are the only ones on the planet (on our side of the ledger) who can do this."
"As I heard it, the president was clear: green light, but we soon make clear to Egypt and Europe what we expect in return. We also need to figure out how to enforce such a requirement. EG, if Europe doesn't remunerate, then what? If the US successfully restores freedom of navigation at great cost there needs to be some further economic gain extracted in return."

And of course the fact that the current instability in the middle east is mainly caused by the US reckless and unconditional support of Netanyahu criminal acts is totally marginal.

In this administration, shocking recklessness, right along with ineptitude, is a feature, not a bug. It fits right in with the other outstanding features: belligerence, hatefulness, stupidity, fascism, narcissism, and destructiveness. These are the values that the majority of American voters voted for. And Trump's delivering on his promises!

I'm not surprised Trump cabinet members use Signal to communicate.

I want to know why one or more of these guys had a journalist among their Signal contacts. What would they possibly need to discuss with a journalist that requires Signal, other than shady business???
Ooh, interesting. Whichever of them added him originally - gotta wonder if they were considering acting as an anonymous source in the future.

It's in the article, they use Signal to arrange meetings with reporters sometimes because it's more secure. Well, it's more secure if you're not a Trump administration yabo who can't keep track of all the people you need to invite to secret meetings.

To paraphrase Blazing Saddles:
"You've got to remember that these are just simple MAGAs. These are people of the land. The common clay of the neo West. You know... morons."

How is this the leadership of the US? Why are they also actively talking about extorting Europe to free up the right of navigation. This is no different to a mobsters style of protection.

"The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security."
OK, I know this isn't the main point at all, but that's not how it works. "Nothing went wrong this one time, so there was no risk" is not valid logic. Nothing went wrong because they got lucky in which civilian they accidentally added to their war room group chat.

I'm sure they don't see it that way - after all, this is now all over the media because the civilian they added was a big-name journalist. But he (presumably) didn't try to pass the information on to foreign actors, didn't publish until after the military operation was over, and even then was careful not to name the intelligence operative (mentioned in the full article) or share details that would risk ongoing military ops. They got lucky.

Vance moaning about taking this action alone is frustrating since the US has played a role in knee capping and trivializing the UN…bringing up the problem at the security council and building a coalition to pay for and execute the operation would be a better outcome. This administration’s belligerence is breathtaking … not that long ago many countries joined them in Afghanistan and or Iraq…

"...callousness of organizing a strike which will kill some number of people and using fucking emojis..."

To be expected from an administration headed by a guy who's right-hand hatchet man goes by the chosen name of Harry Bōlz.

Sociopaths.

These people have the same moral compass as did Hermann Göring, Heinrich Himmler, Reinhard Heydrich, Adolf Eichmann, and Joseph Goebbels.

I'm not sure if stupid evil is better or worse than smart evil.
I would say worse in the short term maybe, since smart evil would keep things working well enough and crank up persecution slowly enough to avoid massive civil unrest before all the law enforcement and courts are locked in.

You're funny. This will lead to months of "Hillary's emails were much worse" coverage.
Hemming and hawing in the face of fascism will literally be the downfall of America.

Like, from this very article:

Signal is not an authorized venue for sharing such information, and Waltz's use of a feature that makes messages disappear after a set period of time "raises questions about whether the officials may have violated federal records law," the article said.

This is as close to a name tag that literally says "Hi, my name is Violating Federal Law In Front Of Your Stupid Fucking Faces" as it gets, and still the best we can hope for is a furrowed fucking eyebrow.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/milita...using-nuclear-weapons-war-china-book-n1279187

Their book, "Peril," said that in the days before the 2020 election, Milley also acted to prevent a potential conflict with China. The book said Milley received intelligence that Chinese officials believed the U.S. was getting ready to attack them. To defuse tensions, Milley called the head of China's military, Gen. Li Zuocheng, and told him the "American government is stable" and "we are not going to attack."

"If we're going to attack, I'm going to call you ahead of time. It's not going to be a surprise," Milley is quoted as saying.

"We're not going to have a fight," Milley told him, according to the book.

Li replied, "Okay."

"I take you at your word," Li said.

We've now come to a reversal of Mark Milley stepping in to defuse a potential DEFCON escalation with China. Now it's the administration itself using a side channel to coordinate an attack.

Warfighters tend to know that things going kinetic is the worst outcome because you might not be able to walk back the situation and stop it from escalating even more. Guys like Vance seem to think that war is fun, that war is a game, and Dr. Strangelove was a training video.

The fact that they communicated a go order on a military op using Signal is bad enough...like there needs to be an investigation and security clearance should be questioned bad....the fact that we know about it because they accidentally sent it to a reporter is just extra special dumb ass.

This is what you get when you don't actually vet for your own team because you don't want the boss to get mad at you. When the guy at the top can do no wrong....he does a f@#$ ton of wrong!

edit: funny typos
