Apple Genius [dis]Bar
https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/24/app ... g-charges/
Levoff was subject to quarterly blackout periods. During those times, those individuals aren't allowed to trade stock until Apple reports its earnings. However, Levoff allegedly disregarded that rule (though he reminded others to whom it applied not to trade during blackout periods), as well as Apple's own insider trading policy -- which, again, he was in charge of enforcing.

I'm not sure how his holdings were setup but if he'd just stayed long over the same period he would have been fine. Worst case they would have only doubled in value or something

I doubt Apple Store workers have some inside knowledge to Apple financial information which is going to move the stock one way or another.

Only those working in their Finance division maybe and not just anyone there.

Maybe he saw big sales of iPhone 11 at his particular store but I wouldn't make stock purchasing decisions on some small snapshot like that.

He wasn't a store worker (bad joke, sorry) he was the lawyer in charge of their insider trading prevention efforts

Now comes word that Google is looking at buying Fitbit, which is pretty much dead man walking.

I guess Google is really going to give Android Wear or whatever they call their watches platform a real shot. Or maybe just sell a couple of million watches at $300-400 a quarter. force everyone to change their Fitbit logons to a google account and then dump the whole thing 12 to 16 months later
Fixed that for you

In my case we have a Samsung Galaxy S9 (one of the fastest and most common Android devices) and a Nokia 6 (not super common but basically a commodity Qualcomm phone running close to vanilla Android)

"glitches" include things like Maps just crapping out randomly and/or Bluetooth crashing when you try to make/answer a call

These would be obnoxious enough under normal usage but become downright dangerous distractions if you are driving which more than defeats the purpose.

Somehow my older vehicle with a built-in GPS and basic Bluetooth functionality always seems to work.

Sure you can use it but now you've got a laptop with a smudgy screen. I might use the touchscreen over a trackpad in a pinch but I have a small mouse in my backpack I usually use

Which explains why everyone hates tablets and smartphones.
Everyone has their phone in a huge ugly case with a screen protector and the glass is cracked despite all that

Then i guess a "smudgy screen" isn't the huge burden you acted like
Sure it is. People just cant always afford to replace the phone or aren't sufficiently motivated to go through the hassle. It doesn't mean they *like* it when its cracked, scratched or smudgy

how good things are right now in the technology world.
PC world is kicking ass these days. Thanks, Dr Su

Mobile is a bit boring and disappointing in my book. Too many gimmicks (including thinness) that jack up price and reduce reliability/usability

Lumia 700 (in its day) is still the best phone I've ever owned

Elon Musk is on a deranged tweetfest today. Among other things, he Tweeted, "Tesla stock price is too high imo."

Tesla stock is down 10% on the day. What the hell is he doing? Is he trying to tank the company and/or get himself into more hot water with the SEC?
Perhaps he's started shorting himself as a final middle finger to the SEC

Are Ars users too US-centric and iOS has just steamrolled the US market with its blue bubble prestige?
Hardly. Android has the market share since carriers stopped subsidizing new phones so heavily

There just isn't much to talk about. Both mobile OSS are garbage in their own ways but everyone is locked in to one or the other and there is no alternative

Okay.

The truth of both of those statements with respect to desktop OSes did not stop people arguing Windows vs. Mac with way too much vitriol for well over a decade. There's plenty to argue about with smartphone OSes and everyone uses them, so I'm surprised by what I see here.
Cool. I can find graphs too:
https://www.counterpointresearch.com/us ... one-share/

MacOS was just nix by proxy. Supporr died because Apple cares less about Mac than their users do.

Anyhow this sub has been pretty dead for a while.

He's just unwilling to pay the price Apple set a decade ago for access to this marketplace.
Maybe though it seems a nasty loophole to be able create an anti-competitive market and *then* grow it into a monopoly without being subject to the same scrutiny that they'd get from doing it in the traditional order.

While bad, it's good to keep in mind it isn't quite as bad as it looks. The "xnm" naming has become something unrelated to actual measurements, and now represents generation more than anything concrete. TSMC 7nm is roughly the same density as Intel's 10nm,
No its not bad. Its beyond bad. Intel doesn't even have high power 10nm parts available yet. Let me know when they are running them in volume on desktops/servers

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel ... lf-of-2021
Intel's announcement today that its 7nm process will be delayed until late 2022 or early 2023 sent shockwaves through the industry, but the company also revealed that its first 10nm CPUs for the desktop won't come to market until the second half of 2021.

Its even possible that you might be able to buy a 5nm high power AMD product before a 10nm Intel desktop/server parts are available.

Edit: 10nm Xeons might slip out Q4 2020 or Q1 2021 but I'm not holding my breath

Facebook is not "books". Facebook is not "radio". Facebook is not even "social media". Facebook is a single company that has committed crimes against humanity that warrant a trial in the Hague and the corporate death penalty.

We can recycle the servers if literal burning makes too many people clutch their pearls.

What crimes against humanity?
Yeah that's a hot take.

Facebook isn't any more culpable than Twitter, Reddit, or any other form of open information platform not to mention entities like CNN who have engaged with the FUD to keep their ratings up.

I don't care for them myself but I dont think they need to be destroyed for not banning Russians and nutjobs from their platform
