Yeah, despite my protests, it ended up being basically the same cost to get Cosmic Storms along with the other two I didn't have compared to just ignore it, so... now I've got storms. yay.

Playing with the new beta and no mods is just surreal. Completely different game than I'm used to; population management is bizarre. Especially when you absorb an FTL planet and their jobs break so the whole thing is fucking useless.

I keep getting sucked back in to try the newer betas, and keep finding more outrageous problems. Having a tolerable run in 3.99.3, and I've got a one planet vassal. Time to integrate them... oh, that will take 1900 months. No thanks. Kick them free, wait ten years, attack... and I can't invade planets. I land armies, and they just bounce back to orbit.

How do they fuck up so many things?

I'm not a software dev but how do you manage 24 distinct DLC packages? That's 16,777,216 possible combinations which seems crazy high.
I think you manage things by walling them off or building them on top of/under one another. My understanding is that the pop stuff (and war stuff, which according to pauli is also broken, sadly) is really a core mechanic which would be layered UNDER many (if not all) of the DLCs. I'd imagine they have a VERY good understanding of what mechanics affect what other parts--at least I do in my job knowing all the moving pieces and where all the skeletons are buried, but maybe not given what we're hearing :(

Last couple of dev updates:

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...g-biogenesis-and-stellaris-season-09.1732204/

Four new DLCs for the year, much like last.
  • BioGenesis, the big one for the year, does for genetic ascension what did The Machine Age for mechanical and cybernetic. A few new features are unlocked w/previous DLC. Expected in early May ( I assume w/v4.0, seems like very little time to get all the other new changes sorted out).
  • Shadows of the Shroud, much as above for Psionic. Q3
  • Infernals, a species pack. Q4
  • Stargazer, a species portrait pack. Listed as "instant unlock" w/the season pass.
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...377-meat-ships-meat-ships-meat-ships.1733299/

The BioGenesis DLC introduces biological, growing ships (not just space fauna), plus the various stations/bases and megastructures, that can replace the conventional ones. Also, a much needed organizational feature for shipyards.
