I think a lot of people who are ambivalent about them keep quieter. There's a lot to dislike about the transparent hype, job losses, error rates, application to tasks that they're not appropriate for, copyright and attribution issues, and sketchy characters involved. Someone who wants to grind an ax on any of those topics will be really fired up about it.
But the ability to ask "what's the MySQL syntax to do (English words)" is really useful. And someone who thinks GPT7 will be an AGI will be really fired up about it
It's hard to really get into a thread when your opinion is "if these disappeared that'd be fine but if they continued to exist that'd be fine too".
In this case, Sam Altman, creator of worldcoin, is one of said hyperambitious skeevy characters and nobody should trust him.
