Okay, I read through most of the posts on this topic, but may have missed something, so if I reiterate a previous argument, try not to get too mad at me...
The first question I have to ask myself is, "Who is going to read the KB article anyway?" Obviously there are those who want to mock it. But in general, it is for people who DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT THEMSELVES. Obviously you can pull out your trusty copy of MS-DOS fdisk, repartition the drive, and away you go. The KB article even mentions that. But the KB article is targetted at those who need a little help. What's the purpose in writing a concise KB article to explain to people who know what they're doing how to do something they do all the time?
Yes, a serious beta tester is likely to have a copy of fdisk around somewhere. But a serious beta tester is not likely to go looking for a KB article explaining how to remove linux. I think MS has done an adequate job of providing instructions within the minimum constraints of usefulness, provided for those who really don't know how to do it themselves.
Just an opinion...
That's pretty much my point, the instructions are for a literal situation where Linux needs to be removed and replaced with NT4/2000. What you describe treatment is a real life situation with a well equiped technician. While it's a valid scenario and a quicker one (unless the dos fdisk gurgles and refuses to remove a linux partition which once in a blue moon it does) It is not an accurate one for this particular KB article. Also I doubt this is geared toward Beta testers who are usually pretty darn clued in as to what needs to be done. Normally you would think this is insane and any person who has installed linux would know how to remove it/install NT. There are some IT people who don't know how to do that believe it or not. A friend of the family works at SGI, he's a big Unix expert, knows Solaris, Irix, Linux, yadda, yadda. Let me tell you, he would have no clue what a dos boot disk is, much less have one on hand View image: /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif

mikvo,
The point is, the particular KB shouldn't have gone to explain, albeit flawed explanation, of what linux installs and linux partitions are. My contention all along is about just putting the simple, proper and right steps using minimal effort, instead of a useless/flawed/irrelevant diatribe that the KB presents. Both MS pros and linux-advocs are mocking it because it is quite silly and insulting. Most of the people who didn't find the particular KB hilariously funny are those who are narrow-minded ignoramus and have a zealotness beef against people who they deemed falsely as anti-ms people. It's like asking a TV repair-man how to automatically record from your TV to a VCR and he surprisingly goes on to tell you the history and difference between 220v vs 110v of electricity and the beta vs VHS issue.
Alot of people, including me, use the whole KB for different MS problems/probable explanations and alot of the KBs are really randomly funny in content and explanation. Same thing with linux-docs, but we are both more inflammatory and comedic towards people who write linux-docs. As a side-note, the linux-kernel docs has been reported and verified to contain so much "F"-word and other curse-words, that it may be considered as a violation of Australia's new computer-ethics law.
--treatment--
