I feel like I have hit the point where I need to figure out how to pay for a personal assistant. Someone to pick me up, go with me to appointments/run errands, top make sure I get there and back without undue issues. This stems from a variety of issues I'm not going to get into on a public forum, let's just say the last few years have taken a toll.

I'm not even sure where to start looking, or if this is reasonable to budget for, but, fuck, I would like to be on a path to getting back to being more generally functional. My ballpark is, with a handy helper-bot, once or twice a week, I could get all things mostly addressed within a year. Maybe less. Professional service, college kid, some rando off craigslist...I dunno. Just irked and rambling.

Start with your medical folks and if they can't help, the local governments have social services as well?
I'm a USian, you think I have medical people?! :D
Thankfully, I do have insurance, though I suspect they will cover little to none of this, especially the personal errands. And, I likely make too much to qualify for gov services. But that's what the current path is for, figuring what the options are, and what works best for the situation.

If you are a veteran, you can look there maybe.

If you have to hire someone, check with your doctor (s) for recommendations or maybe a local hospital or physical therapy studio.

It sounds like you need someone with possible medical/PT training as opposed to an administrative maybe? Or an assistant that has medical training? That is why I was was suggesting those routes.

There is probably a way to vet them, but I am uncertain how. There are probably resources online for that.

I'm in the office today. My group sits in a walled off badge-swipe-required area due to HIPAA (which at least they spelled correctly). There are two doors to go in, and they have Push and Pull signs on them. Naturally, they do not both push or pull to get in; one pushes, the other pulls.

I typically sit where the push to get in door is, but since the docking station at my usual seat is busted, I wound up on the other side.

Twice alone today, so far, I have dead-assed stared at the Pull sign on the door and tried opening it by pushing.

Not a vet. And, need to get a new doc before I check in with them. I don't need (as far as I know) so much "medical training", more just someone that can physically support someone with balance and vision issues. That may well change after the visits to new doc start, I have no idea. One of the things I (in theory) like about the professional services is that they do the vetting...though from folks I know that do EMT/social svcs...the vetting may not be great. This is the great information gathering, who knows what will come of it?

And ‘tis a classic, at that!

Could be worse.

When I was a kid, I taught myself to read in mirrors because it seemed like a cool thing to do at the time.

Now there are so many businesses that have glass doors, and the "push" or "pull" signs are transparent decals stuck on the glass.

I routinely push when I'm supposed to pull or vice versa because without thinking about it, I read the sign that was posted on the other side of the door.

"I have purposely trained myself wrong, as a joke."
In my defense, when I was an 8-year old fan of James Bond films, the ability to read what someone else had in front of them by looking at a nearby mirror or window instead of directly at the document seemed like a useful thing to have.

At least now it lets me get the serial numbers off the back side of equipment that's too bulky/heavy to turn around easily.

The thumbs up doesn't look like the Ars orange that it is, largely because the icon is small and 50% white. Which does things to the eyes - like that's how eyes work right?

I think it's a poor design for a thumbs up icon, but I doubt that feedback would be well received. I'm trying to keep away from mods and staff, the shit-show in the feedback forums makes me think they've all gone fucking insane. Clearly Caesar has told them all to clean up house now that Condé is selling all this data. It's leaving a really nasty taste and I'm disliking Ars more as a result of this behaviour. If I'm not perma-banned for this post, I'll probably wander off anyway for somewhere more pleasant. Shame.

sigh why is cleaning up always the most annoying part? I guess cause I'm doing a good job. Only about 50% done on the interior of my trailer detailing it after Burning Man. Then comes having to clean the outside, which shouldn't be quite as annoying.

Blah. And then there's all the stuff on my patio. Screw it, that can wait another day or two. Once I'm done and get this and some more stuff back into storage, I'm done for the day.

Whelp, that's done. More or less. Need to clean out the under bed and misc external access compartment, but I'm OK doing that later.

Although I need to figure out a replacement door seal, turns out it doesn't seem to be doing a great job of sealing up air. At least, the whiteout dust storms we had still pushed in a fair bit of dust, so want to seal up the door. And probably something underneath where the fridge is, which has a mushroom vent that let a modest amount in. sigh

What kind of range do those c02 powered salt pistols get?
I've downed horse flies with the shotgun from 3ish feet, though they did need doubletapping (or stomping) to finish the job. Unless you catch them on the wing, you're not taking out palmetto bugs with one though. Not for want of trying though.

I am unsure if you are the walrus, I thought it was Paul, or if you are going to eat the walrus.
One should never eat the Walrus, because it's his call that brings the sushi. No Walrus, no sushi. :eng101:

It's still 50/50 on the Walrus actually showing up tomorrow, so who knows.
