Ars OpenForum Acceptable Use Agreement (AUP)

The real-time nature of this bulletin board makes it impossible for Ars Technica to review messages or confirm the validity of information posted herein. Furthermore, Ars Technica does not endeavor to completely curate this resource. We do not necessarily actively monitor the contents of the Ars OpenForum for accuracy, sanity, or decency. We try, but the insanity often seeps through.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use the OpenForum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, hateful, harassing, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You will not post commercially oriented posts to promote your own commercial interests. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by Ars Technica. You agree not to use this forum in any way to defraud others.

Additionally, you agree to these two very important things:

To consult and follow the General Guidelines and Provisions in good faith, and...
To not use any tools or methods to prevent the proper and full display of advertisements on the OpenForum
(with the exception of completely text-based browsers).

We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of the OpenForum or any entity associated with the OpenForum. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages or posters and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. This determination is made in the best judgment of moderators and the site owners according to their best efforts. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

Although the Ars OpenForum does not and cannot review the messages posted and is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ars Technica, Infopop, Inc. (the makers of the bulletin board framework), and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s).

Ars Technica must also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of legal action arising from any message posted by you.

Ars Technica reserves the right to reproduce, edit, remove, or distribute any post contained in the OpenForum. All posts become the property of Ars Technica, except when copyrighted material is posted (and properly cited).

Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate in the Ars OpenForum.
