and the 'high respect' that courts must afford the President in the conduct of his constitutional duties."

LOL, this president? Who has openly flaunted the power of the courts, no I do not think they owe him any respect whatsoever. Respect is earned and he has shredded his, they must follow the rule of law, but they need show zero respect to this president.

"outside of US" person question...

these various articles about all the madness going on keep mentioning "Department of Justice" lawyers doing various Trump-inspired legal insanity.. (the extradiction flights and the court fight over that for example)

Are these -newly hired- DoJ lawyers standing up and defending and actioning all of this stuff?

or are the DoJ Lawyers standing in court saying 'why yes, what Pres Trump is doing is 100% legal, black is white, water is not wet etc.' the same people that were in those same jobs a few months ago ???

Edit: I'll update this to a better response. The problem is that Trump and his administration have already shown that they have no problems just ignoring any legal decisions they don't like, and attacking or trying to remove any judges that don't toe the line.
So they can't just play Calvinball and make non-nonsensical arguments, while their opponents have to try and fight it within a framework of sanity and legality. I'm not sure it will be a winning strategy.

It's probably mostly Trump appointed scum, but there may very well have been existing Trump supporters in the DoJ who are more than happy to kiss the ring. It is notable that a lot of DoJ officials have resigned rather than rape the Constitution, but certainly not everyone.

The real answer is....both. The DoJ is supposed to be apolitical and whether you believe they are or are not, some in the DoJ will take that view.

Newly appointed lawyers by Trump's lackeys are no doubt doing exactly as they are told.

But I have no doubt pre-existing people in the DoJ are taking orders as they are given. There is also the stance that lawyers, within the bounds of the law, are supposed to do as directed by the client. That means if the orange fascist wants his bullshit tested in court, they run with it. It could be considered a form of malicious compliance....maybe.

Now, in reality only fools don't listen to their lawyers, but hey, dumpy-pants has never been known to flirt with intelligent action.

This might be a stupid question from a Canadian, but can't Trump simply issue an Executive Order to keep it secret? He seems to be able to issue Executive Orders for just about anything else he wants, from tariffs to mandating an extra layer of beef and cheese on his Big Macs.
He can issue the order, but that doesn't mean its legal or binding. That's what most of these cases are actually about, the limit of his authority to dismantle, defund, or repurpose departments created by Congress.

"President Trump has delegated virtually unchecked authority to Mr. Musk without proper legal authorization from Congress and without meaningful supervision of his activities. As a result, he has transformed a minor position that was formerly responsible for managing government websites into a designated agent of chaos without limitation and in violation of the separation of powers."

That's a pretty accurate summary. It is bizarre that he could go on a rampage for so long without any checks and balances in place.

But but but, I thought doge was supposed to be the most transparent thing ever and that it was the agencies that weren't transparent? /s

I am so sick of the fascists constantly talking out both sides of their mouths and the libertarian turds that constantly excuse them and turn a blind eye while only parroting the talking points

I see. Does that mean that they're essentially as legal as the people willing to go along with them without challenge? If they do, does that effectively make them legal?

Yeah, respect needs to be earned – contempt is free though!

Especially when the "most transparent government ever" is literally trying to keep secret the activities of a department outside of government that is claiming the authority to dismiss federal employees and seize control of federal budgets at will.

Uhm... a non-congressionally-mandated supposedly "independent" organization working under the auspices of the executive branch to illegally dismantle congressionally-mandated organizations that are independent of the executive branch? One that shouldn't have any oversight? At all? Seriously? I can't even with this bullshit anymore.

In Trumpland, we need to remember that words and phrases don’t have the meaning we expect.

For example, maximum transparency really means total secrecy.

Good for all Americans means good for billionaires.

Cutting waste means breaking government then claiming it should be eliminated.

Cost effective means transferring assets from the people to the oligarchs.

The people love it means if your a republican and try to hold a town hall, you’ll be lucky to escape with your life.

Just wait for next week, when he's supposed to sign one declaring fentanyl a WMD. That one's got seriously ominous tones all over it for us Canadians. And the Mexicans.

I'm not advocating for violence, but you know all those sci-fi stories that start with "what if someone had offed Hitler before it was too late?" Those ones are usually pretty good, yeah?

The issue here is quite simple: discovery entails testimony under oath. In other words, The Truth. So, how else would pathological liars behave? Justice Department lawyers have already been called out in various courts (using polite legalese) as being liars.
The place is run by thugs so expect thuggery.

Part of what’s making all of this so hard to track is the unprecedented turnover. Tradition was for much of the leadership of executive branch departments to tender resignations when a new administration was voted in. In bygone years many presidents would cancel some resignations to maintain continuity and believing in the importance of expertise. This time everyone was cleared out, including some who chose not to follow tradition and tried to stay in their roles.

The same thing is happening with discretionary funding. There has always been notices of grant discontinuations with administration change as priorities shift, but this admin discontinued everything.

It is safe to assume that the only goal is maximum disruption and only having people with absolute fealty to the president and no one else remaining.
