An entire generation is going to become politically active because of this.
I'll note this was Trump's plan, too, before it wasn't.I despise Trump and wish him nothing but ill, but one has to say, this weird US lame duck presidency stuff is bullshit.
Or die writhing in horrific withdrawal pangs. An entire generation is going to become politically active because of this.
There's 2 or 3, but they are also Chinese lol.Why hasn't someone made achineseknock-off yet?
I read that many kids are moving to RedNote, which apparently is similar, and there's also a fresh competitor from the BlueSky folks as well. Why hasn't someone made achineseknock-off yet?
I fear you are correct. And that worries me because they have shown they are willing and, even worse, enthusiastic about migrating to any platform that gives them the attention they want without any regard whatsoever for privacy or security. An entire generation is going to become politically active because of this.
Not sure what you mean. This was passed by both sides of the isles and signed by the President. Lame duck has nothing to do with this.I despise Trump and wish him nothing but ill, but one has to say, this weird US lame duck presidency stuff is bullshit.
For the same reason it's been difficult to replace Twitter, the sauce isn't in the tech, it's in the content. Why hasn't someone made achineseknock-off yet?
Have you seen Instagram/FB Reels? That has the same knock-off quality we've come to expect of a Chinese knock-off.Why hasn't someone made achineseknock-off yet?
Apologies for a naive question, but what's wrong with switching to YouTube? Or is the issue that getting rid of TikTok, basically forces a monopoly for YouTube?
The kids have, literally, only ever known surveillance capitalism and its material rewards.I fear you are correct. And that worries me because they have shown they are willing and, even worse, enthusiastic about migrating to any platform that gives them the attention they want without any regard whatsoever for privacy or security.
I get humans are social creatures and I am not saying we should ignore our innate desire to engage with others.
But we have been conditioned to accept that our information is the product and way too many people are just fine with that reality.
The BlueSky competitor, BlueScreen, isn't out yet though. And I can only find one article on it where it's "announced", but that seems like it's going to be a long wait before it actually is publicly available.I read that many kids are moving to RedNote, which apparently is similar, and there's also a fresh competitor from the BlueSky folks as well.
Last time I checked Israel wasn't a US stateIf anything, the election is the best evidence of youth activism. They engaged in mass protest on campuses and refused to help reelect an administration that was participating in a genocide.
The secret sauce is a mix of the content and the algorithm. TikTok has seemingly mastered serving content to you that you would be interested in, which Meta and YT's competitors (Reels and Shorts) haven't gotten close to. While the content needs to be there (it is for both of those competitors, for the most part), the actual algorithm needs to be significantly improved for both to be close to what TikTok manages to do.For the same reason it's been difficult to replace Twitter, the sauce isn't in the tech, it's in the content.
As much as TikTok is mindless short attention span theater, people come for the creators. Even if they just keep scrolling.
One more sign we are headed to Idiocracy. All hail President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho. An entire generation is going to become politically active because of this.
Contrary to the popular desire to throw kids under the bus, 54% (that's a majority) of 18-29 year-olds went for Harris. If anything, the election is the best evidence of youth activism. They engaged in mass protest on campuses and refused to help reelect an administration that was participating in a genocide. Trump may not have deserved to win, but Harris richly deserved to lose.
Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram are currently the knock-offs.Why hasn't someone made achineseknock-off yet?
Conservatives being fact checked. So, what DOES constitute an infringement on your First Amendment rights then?
Good. We need active citizens participating in a democracy, not disengaged onesAn entire generation is going to become politically active because of this.
Anybody who thinks the Republicans are going to protect muslims in palestine is so brain-damaged that I'm amazed they can still breathe and blink their eyes.If anything, the election is the best evidence of youth activism. They engaged in mass protest on campuses and refused to help reelect an administration that was participating in a genocide. Trump may not have deserved to win, but Harris richly deserved to lose.
Let me get my tiny violin here.
Social media was a mistake.
None, eh?For TikTok and content creators defending the app, the stakes were incredibly high. TikTok repeatedly denied there was any evidence of spying and warned that enforcing the law would allow the government to unlawfully impose "a massive and unprecedented speech restriction."
This would mean to shitcan everything the previous administration did preemptively even if it's something that the incoming administration doesn't even want gone/changed. If Trump is opposed to the decision made by his predecessor he now has 4 years of time to change it.I certainly don't want Trump to be president, but he's going to be, so they should have backed the removals van up to the White House on 6 November and been done with it.
