Here’s the secret to how Firefly was able to nail its first lunar landing

"Space weathering" is a thing. Anything on the surface of the moon is going to be bombarded by micrometeorites. Over a long enough timescale, presumably that will grind it down.

Behind the scenes of The Electric State

That comment from Simon Stålenhag is incredibly gracious. If I'd seen my moody, unsettling dystopia repurposed as a wisecracking robot caper, the most positive thing I would have said is "no comment".

Elon Musk to “fix” Community Notes after they contradict Trump

AYFKM? It's only surprising if you're a credulous fool.

Man offers to buy city dump in last-ditch effort to recover $800M in bitcoins

The only thing which could make this story more enjoyable is if the guy turns out to be the real Satoshi Nakamoto.

YouTube briefly banned 15-year-old channel with no strikes and won’t say why

"Dad, why is my brother named Boot?" "Well, son, when he was born, your mother was really into leather footwear and clothing." "Oh, I see! Thanks, dad!" "No problem, Gimpsuit!"

    Bonobos know when you’re clueless

Teco? Who names a bonobo after one of the most opaque text editors ever?

YouTube briefly banned 15-year-old channel with no strikes and won’t say why

There really ought to be a financial cost to Google when they pull shit like this. If they had to pay compensation for every day the channel is wrongly unavailable, they'd find a way to put a human in the loop.

Celebrate Halloween with 20 of our favorite horror comedies

I was literally typing my recommendation for One Cut of the Dead when your post came in. It's one of the best experiences I've had at the cinema in years! I'd agree that it's best enjoyed without knowing anything in advance, because it's a hard film to write about without spoilers. Funny as...

Tesla, Warner Bros. sued for using AI ripoff of iconic Blade Runner imagery

Perhaps not "emperor" exactly, because that's not corpo enough. Musk's Mars would be a company town, and he would be Vilos Cohaagen from Total Recall.

Thiel is known to be a huge Tolkien fan, but to be fair I suspect he identifies with Sauron.

Tesla, Warner Bros. sued for using AI ripoff of iconic Blade Runner imagery

The world of Blade Runner would be a dystopia for most of us, but it'd be pretty good for the super-rich, like Tyrell or Musk. And creating an expendable class of slaves (replicants)? Elon absolutely loves that idea. No wonder he likes the imagery.

Satisfactory hits 1.0, removing your last excuse to avoid falling in deep

While most of my hundreds of hours of early access play was on Windows, I recently switched to playing Satisfactory on Linux (thanks to Proton). In early access, I found it worked fine if I switched from the default DirectX 12 to Vulkan (which is done in-game, via the video options screen)...

Satisfactory hits 1.0, removing your last excuse to avoid falling in deep

Automating delivery by road transport is fun, but I found I didn't use it for long before unlocking trains, which are even more fun (and capable of carrying much more). So I ended up using trucks just for getting around, and used trains and drones for delivery.

German warship floats down Thames while playing Darth Vader’s theme

This is not true. We admire German engineering*, and some of their beer. * Though it's a shame BMW cars appear to have no turn signals.
