Ars Scholae Palatinae
Assuming you work, did your letter of offer specify hours of work per week or specific tasks? Likely it's hours per work week which, if you're honest, addresses your first paragraph. You have agreed and employers have the right to assign and track work (aka Employment) during the agreed timeframe. Being employed by others means you're agreeing to those conditions., i.e. not yours to decide.Typical nonsense, and totally irrelevent. If they want me to do more than what they told me to do, they can pay me more. If they want every second of my spare time when I'm done with the tasks assigned, that's that.
Stop supporting this vampiric nonsense. I'm sick of this selfish reasoning, and the "oh you can just QUIT" stuff. This is why unions happen, so that we can all, collectively, stop working and renegotiate a deal that doesn't involve "just starting my own company", as if that's feasible for every disgruntled employee.
What the hell do YOU do, huh? Justify yourself, and try not to fall back to tired cliches invented in the 1950's.
And yes, if you prefer not to accept those conditions you have other options.
