Euthanized a gopher today

So the meow meows caught a delicious morsel and brought it to me as a gift while I was working in the hard.

Poor little gopher with part of its face torn off, bleeding, and with some broken limbs. Writhing in pain.

I picked up a large rock and crushed it to put it out of it's misery. Then let the meow meows eat it.

Is this something I must repeat often as a cat owner? (I'm new to owning cats obviously)

Ideally, the animal will have been killed before its presentation. With any luck, your cats will pick up on this idea, but don't count on it.

Also, expect them to start finding small lizards, eating said small lizards, getting sick from eating aforementioned small lizards, and puking the small lizards in question back up, only to repeat the process ad infinitum.

I originally got them because I had a mouse/rat problem in my garage. They have been ultra effective in that regard. Haven't seen a mouse or rat in years.

I adopted them, 3 sisters, from a farm cat that had a proven lineage of mousing. They are also garage/outside cats exclusively. I'm kinda allergic.

I've never seen them puke anything up or get sick. They are hired assassins.

I wouldn't like to see a giraffe catapulted into the White House. I would feel really bad for the giraffe, as I think the giraffe is much more likely to be sentient than a gopher.

I might pay a nickel to see a gopher catapulted into the White House. Just to see what happens.

I will admit to possibly being wrong about all of my beliefs. The Caddy Shack gopher was pretty clever. Mostly though, I don't give a shit about gophers. Giraffes are kinda cool, though.

It's kind of interesting, when you think about it. We assign greater value to larger mammals. Body mass is king, unless the mammal can prove their worthiness.

Are birds mammals? Because Grey Parrots are crazy smart, and much smaller than a gopher. I wouldn't kill a parrot unless my life (or another human life) was on the line.

Yet, I would kill a gopher without blinking an eye. Some value a gopher over a mouse, probably because of greater body mass. I don't know. It's all pretty fucked up.

I was asking to know if this would be a regular thing, not the moral implications of killing animals of various body mass. There's a box with soap in it for that. -- View image here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif --

But yes, some have answered my question; I will have to expect more. I will hone my Youth-in-Asia skills.

For example, horses are fairly big, but they're also really stupid so I don't give a rip. Cute conquers all, however. A panda, even if it were stupid and small, I would have to shoot it, stuff it, and hang it over the fireplace.

Oh, and birds aren't mammals, they're their own category. Although scientists are considering reclassifying them as extant species of dinosaur, the implications of which are not only did dinosaurs not go extinct, but are one of the most prolific species on earth.

Craziness.

I've ridden horses. It is enjoyable and I intend to do it again. It hasn't brought about any great epiphanies regarding their intelligence, though.

Also, dinosaurs weren't really lizards as we see them today. Recent discoveries indicate that they may have been warm-blooded and many had feathers.

Egh, I'm going to bed. My tired silliness has thoroughly derailed this thread. My apologies, Guggimus.
